The origin of black tie formal wear dates back to 1860, when Henry Poole & Co. designed a short smoking jacket for Edward VII of the United Kingdom. The black tie formal wear for men initially began as informal dress to be worn while lounging, or smoking to be precise. It was six years later that this style of dress assumed it's formal states quo. It happened over a dinner par vivienne westwood sale ty thrown by the Prince for his friends, the Potters, from New York. Confounded about the dress code, James Potter (not Harry's father), asked the Prince about dinner's dress code. The Prince suggested Henry Poole & Co., where he bought the smoking jacket. Later, on Potter's return to New York, the smoking vivienne westood mens jacket become a popular trend at the Tuxedo Park Club. So, thus came the name 'Tuxedo' for the dress, that is now worn in fine dining rooms. So, if you are confused about a formal dinner attire, my suggestion to you is also a tuxedo!
